Boost Your Websites Google Rankings – Important Ranking Factors

Google with 5 billion searches daily is the most popular search engine in the world. That is why it is important to look at the factors that would help you rank higher in search engines.

While there is no official ranking factor list published by Google, based on the best industry knowledge I have put together 10 important factors that affect your website ranking:

1) Website Security | SSL:

Since August 2018, Google started showing red warning messages on the websites that are not secure. Because of this message the website traffic might drop significantly. So, it is very important to install SSL certificate on your site and make sure all pages are secure.

2) Inbound Links or Backlinks:

Backlinks are the links on different domains that point back to your website. It is a crucial element for site ranking since Google ranks websites it trusts higher.

For example, if a reputable website such as Forbes links to your website – Google would consider your website trustworthy and important.

3) Diversity of Backlink Domains:

Based on the Backlinko analysis, the greater diversity of referring domains the higher your website ranks.

Having more links from a single domain might not help your ranking. For example, if you have 100 links pointing to your website from one outside domain, it would not be as valuable for search engines as having one link from 100 outside domains.

4) Number of Backlinks:

Websites with a higher number of backlinks tend to rank higher by search engines. As an example, Care.com ranks #2 in the category of similar websites with 240K backlinks and 23K referring domains.

5) Mobile-Friendly:

Have you heard an expression “mobile first”?  If so, you understand that more than 50% of all web searches happen on mobile devices. So, it is super important that your website has a responsive design to enable your webpages to look great on any device.

You can test your website on the Google Mobile-Friendly Test to see where you can improve.

6) Social Media Sharing:

While social sharing is not a direct ranking factor, Google takes into account the popularity of your content by looking at the number of shares, likes, and links back to your website.

9) On Page Keywords:

Use relevant keywords and key phrases on the page but don’t overuse them to avoid an adverse effect. Usually using 5-10 keywords is appropriate to avoid keyword stuffing.

10) Site Speed:

Site speed is crucial for a positive user experience which is why Google measures TTFB (time to first byte) to determine if a page loads quickly.
